肥厚多汁的葉子，真令人食指大動啊。它的別名有天葵,皇宮菜、胭脂菜、牛皮凍等，看來我跟古人還真是心意相通啊。

粉紅色的小花含蓄而美麗，跟之後會出現的紫黑果實大不相同。

紫黑色的果實過去拿來當作食物用色素，而據說種子若是蒸熟後曬乾，可以拿來敷臉，不過要將種子弄出來一事，顯然有點小麻煩。
